Poachers Pocket is a boutique self-catering cottage for two, nestled in the heart of the North Cornish countryside in the little hamlet of Tredethy. Just 2 miles from the pretty village of St Mabyn (and perhaps more importantly the pub!) and just 8 miles from the dramatic coastline of Port Isaac where you will find Nathan Outlaws award winning restaurant. Our central location makes for a great base to explore the whole of Cornwall.

With walks straight from the door and the Camel Trail cycling route just down the hill, Poachers Pocket is the perfect place to relax and unwind on your Cornish holiday. (We even provide the bikes!)

You'll arrive to a luxury welcome hamper full of locally sourced Cornish produce including breakfast for your first morning (Veggie & vegan options available), plus a bottle of organic fizz to truely start your holiday off in style!

Plus the log fire will be laid for you and ready to light!

Cycling 

We are located 1/2 a mile from the Camel Trail cycling route, which offers miles upon miles of car free of cycling routes - head to Padstow, home of Rick Stein and feast on his famous fish and chips, or head to Camel Valley vineyard and sip on some award winning Cornish wine. If you're in need of a hearty breakfast before your day of exploring, look no further than the Snails Pace Cafe at Wenfordbridge.

Eating Out

Nathan Outlaw's award winning fish restaurant is located just 8 miles away in beautiful Port Isaac.  

Locally, the St Tudy Inn, St Mabyn Inn and the St Kew Inn offer great pub food using seasonal and local produce.

St Kew farm Shop is a must stop destination - located just outside of St Mabyn...offering the highest quality local produce and a fabulous Cafe with pop up evening food events during the Summer.

During the Summer months the Gastropod Cafe is a must visit food destination - with daily changing menus from around the world.

Walking and Hiking

Discover the wilderness of Bodmin moor located just 4 miles away, and explore the ancient moorland where wild ponies and highland cattle roam. For Poldark fans, many of the scenes featuring Nampara cottage and the miners cottages were shot close by in the neighbouring village of St Breward. 

Star Gazing 

The skies around Bodmin moor are some of the clearest in the World - wait until night draws in and head to the garden with a picnic blanket and a hot toddy, lay back and marvel at the night sky...

Port Isaac

Visit picture perfect Port Isaac - Located just 8 miles away, home of TV's Doc Martin.

North Coast Beaches

Visit some of the UK's best surfing beaches - The bustling beach resorts of Polzeath and Daymer Bay are just 30 minutes drive away, Trebarwith Strand is just 20 minutes away and the long sandy beaches of Bude are 35 minutes away.
We also have the most beautifully rugged secret beach to tell you all about - just 8 miles from the cottage. If you like your beaches dramatic and secluded - this ones for you! All will be revealed upon booking.

Camel Valley Wine

Visit award winning winery Camel Valley wine. Book yourselves into a wine tasting tour, or relax on the terrace overlooking the vineyard with a chilled glass of Camel Valley wine. You can cycle straight from the cottage to Camel Valley Vineyard along the Camel Trail.

Take a trip to Haywood Cider Farm - Located 2 miles away and enjoy a cider tasting experience.

Pencarrow House

Visit Pencarrow House and Gardens - Located 3.5 miles away. Stately home of the St Aubyn Family.

Tintagel Castle

You cannot stay at Poachers Pocket without a trip to the legendary Tintagel Castle, where you can immerse yourselves in the legend of King Arthur. Journey across the spectacular award winning footbridge and explore Merlins cave, just a 25 minute drive from Poachers Pocket.

Eden Project

Visit the Eden Project - the Worlds largest greenhouse! These World famous tropical biomes are often dubbed the eighth wonder of the World and house plants from all over the globe. The rainforest biome has an aerial walkway giving you the chance to walk amongst the tallest of the rainforest trees. The Mediterranean biome houses olive and lemon groves, you can also dine in the Med biome surrounded by palm trees. Located just 30 mins from Poachers Pocket.

Disabled: Unfortunatley Not suitable due to Stairs

Good to Know: Please check your mobile reception before travelling as reception at the cottage may be patchy depending on provider. Access to the Camel Trail is down a steep hill, please be careful going up and down the hill, it is advisable to walk the bikes up and down the hill for your safety.
